Clooney and Newmarket served-up a hugely exciting contest in round two of the Senior Camogie league at Clooney last Sunday morning with the visitors emerging victorious on a score line of 3-10 to 2-10 after a pulsating hour’s play.

"Newmarket edged ahead with an early goal, only for the home team to respond in the best possible fashion with two well-worked goals to the Clooney girls leading by four points at the half-time break."

Newmarket edged ahead with an early goal, only for the home team to respond in the best possible fashion with two well-worked goals to the Clooney girls leading by four points at the half-time break. Newmarket enjoyed their best spell of the game in the third-quarter when registering a brace of goals but, to their credit, the Clooney girls dug deep to claw their way back into the contest. Despite piling on the pressure and laying siege to their more illustrious opponent’s goal, Clooney just could not get through for the vital scores necessary to shade it with Newmarket holding on to record their first win of the campaign as referee Diarmuid O’Sullivan sounded the full-time whistle. Clooney’s final outing in the competition will be a home game V Scarriff/Ogonneloe which is scheduled to take place on the weekend of April 24/25.
