There was a sense of relief for the Clooney/Quin senior hurlers as they secured their Senior status for 2013 following their merited victory over neighbours, St. Josephs, Doora/Barefield on Saturday afternoon, last.
In a keenly contested match all through, the Clooney/Quin side showed great composure under pressure and notched up a series of points late in the game to claim the win with five points to spare on a 0-17 to 0-12 scoreline.
It was no more than the side and Management deserved, having put in a huge effort all season in what turned out to be a very competitive County Championship.
The Clooney/Quin Senior hurlers were all out of luck on Sunday as they went down to Clarecastle by two points in Round 3 of the County Championship. In a tight and tense game, both sides fought hard for supremacy, with Clarecastle emerging victorious at the end on a 0-13 TO 0-11 scoreline .
This defeat puts the Clooney/Quin lads into a relegation play-offwhere they will play neighbours, St. Josephs, Doora/Barefield. The winner will retain Senior "A" status for 2013,  with the loser of this game to play Broadford to decide who drops down to Senior B grade next season.
On Sunday afternoon in Sixmilebridge, the Clooney/Quin senior hurlers take on Clarecastle in the final group game in the Senior Hurling Championship knowing that nothing but a victory over the Maggies will be enough if they are to advance to the quarter final stage of the competition.
As events in Sixmilebridge unfold, the Clooney/Quin supporters will also be keeping tabs on the Inagh/Kilnamona versus Kilmaley game hoping that the Combo can do us a huge favour and securea victory over a Kilmaley side that would advance the the quarter finals at Clooney/Quins expense if they secure at least a draw in this game. Should Clooney/Quin and Inagh/Kilnamona secure wins, it will then go down to score difference between Clooney/Quin and Kilmaley.
Its going to be a tense afternoon at both venues, with the action set to commence simultaneously at 1.30PM.
We ask all Clooney/Quin supporters to get along to Sixmilebridge to cheer the lads on in their efforts to secure the win over a determined Clarecastle side.
Best of Luck to the Lads on Sunday!
Incredibly, for the fifth time in six meetings, the Clooney/Quin and Kilmaley Senior hurlers played out a thrilling 2-12 to 1-15 draw in the County Senior Hurling Championship in Clarecastle on Saturday afternoon. The first half was an even affair, with the Clooney/Quin team disappointed to be just a single point ahead at the break having had the aid of a strong wind. The goal that their play deserved eluded them in that half, with the Kilmaley rearguard fortunate to have kept their goal intact.
Undaunted, the Clooney/Quin lads turned a magnificent third quarter, and took control of the game to go into a three point lead, as some terrific hurling was being played in all sectors of the field.
Sensing defeat, the Kilmaley lads dug in and hit back and established a commanding three point lead as the game entered the final minutes. In a welter of excitement, Peter Duggan came to the rescue and rocketed a shot to the back of the Kilmaley net to level the game and then hit a free to put the Clooney/Quin lads ahead in injury time, but Kilmaley had time to level the game with the last puck of the match.
Its still all to play for, with Clooney/Quin looking to secure at least a four point  win over Clarecastle to stay in the title race and then await the outcome of Kilmaleys final game with Inagh/Kilnamona to see what teams advance to the quarter finals.
These games are fixed for Sunday week, September 2nd.
