Senior

The Clooney/Quin Senior Hurlers bowed out of Senior "B" Championship race at the semi-final stage on Saturday last when they went down to Clarecastle.
The side was slow to start when they had the aid of the breeze which allowed the Magpies go in at the break with a commanding 1-9 to 0-7 scoreline.
The 2nd half didn't start too well for the Clooney lads either when Clarecastle struck for a goal, to stretch their lead to 9 points. However, from here, the Clooney/Quin lads rallied and set about reducing the defecit. A Martin Duggan goal and two more Clooney/Quin points reduced the margin to 4 as the lads hit their best form with 15 minutes remaining. Then, a Martin Duggan point was unfortunately waved wide by the Umpire who lost the flight of the high ball. This caused much upset to the Clooney/Quin lads who seemed to lose their composure which allowed the Magpies rally and run out deserving winners at the end on a 2-14 to 1-8 scoreline.
Clooney/Quins Senior hurlers will take on Clarecastle in the Senior"B" Championship Semi-Final on Saturday in Sixmilebridge.
The Magpies are in a rich vein of form recently and will provide a stren test for the Clooney/Quin lads. However, having had a well-deserved win over Scarriff in the quarter-final, our lads are also showing good form and will go into this game in confident mood.
The game has a 3PM throw-in time, so try and get along to support the lads.
The Clooney/Quin senior hurlers had a merited 2-14 to 1-11 victory over Scarriff on Saturday last in the quarter-final of the Senior "B" Championship. This win puts them into the semi-final where they will take on Clarecastle. This game will take place on Saturday week, October 8th in Sixmilebridge.
There was disappointment for both Clooney/Quin hurling teams that were in Championship action the past weekend. On Saturday afternoon, the Junior B side went down to a formidable Tubber side while later on that evening, the Senior side lost out to an in-form Kilmaley team on a 1-19 to 0-10 scoreline.
The Senior hurlers secured a merited 3-15 to 1-14 win over Ballyea in Round 3 of the Senior Hurling Championship on Tuesday, August 9th in Clarecastle. Goals from Mick Daffy, Peter Duggan and Cathal Egan proved decisive in a game that Ballyea led for long periods. Going into the final quarter four points down, the side dominated the play and ran out seven point winners at the end.
They will play Kilmaley next, with this game scheduled for the weekend after next.
Following the long break, the Senior hurlers are back in Championship action on Tuesday evening next, August 9th, when they will take on Ballyea in Round 3 of the County Championship. The game takes place in Clarecastle GAA Grounds at 7PM and we hope for a large turnout to support the lads!
It was a case of inches on Sunday evening last as the Senior hurlers took on reigning County Champions, Crusheen in their Round 2 encounter in Cusack Park.  The game turned out to be a game of two halves, with the Clooney/Quin lads on top in the first half but only held a slender two point lead at the break.
On the resumption, the Crusheen lads showed why they are County Champions and played some terrific hurling but the Clooney-Quin lads stayed in contention right to the end. It took a goal-line clearance from the Crusheen lads from preventing an injury-time equalising goal as Crusheen defended a three point lead. The game ended on a 1-14 to 1-11 scoreline in favour of Crusheen.
There is a long break in the Championship until August due to the County teams Munnster and All-Ireland campaigns. In Round 3, Ballyea will provide the opposition.
The Seniors take on Wolfe Tones this Thursday evening in the Clare Cup in Shannon at 7PM.  All support appreciated!
Clooney-Quin Senior hurlers were given an extremely difficult task if they are to qualify for the County Championship quarter-finals for the third year in
sucession following the draw which took place on Tuesday evening last, March 1st. With last years County semi-finalists seeded, Clooney were
drawn in Group 4 with reigning County Champions Crusheen. Indeed, as the draw dictated, its this clash in Round 2 that the Clooney lads
will open their Championship campaign with, having receioved a Bye in Round 1. In Round 3, the opposition will be Ballyea, in Round 4,
Clooney-Quin will take on Kilmaley, a familiar fixture for both clubs who have been drawn in the same group for five years in a row now.
The final Group game will see Clooney-Quin take on another neighbouring Parish, Newmarket.
Round 1 will take place on the Weekend of either May 8th or 15th, with Clooney-Quins first game in Round 2 scheduled for the W/E of May 28th.
Round 3 is scheduled for the W/E of August 7th , Round 4 on W/E of August 20th and Round 5 on W/E of September 10th.

Way back at the turn of the Millenium in 2000, Clooney-Quin contested their second consecutive Under 12 !A" County Final. Then it was known as the Under 12 Premier Championship. On that evening in Kilkishen, the Clooney-Quin lads were trying to capture the County Title they came so close to a year earlier in the Final which was won by Newmarket.
But back to the 2000 Final. That evening, as the Clooney-Quin lads suffered their second sucessive Final loss, this time to Wolfe Tones who hit 2 goals in injury time to lift the title, Clonlara were contesting, and winning, the Under 12 "B" Championship.
Since then, Clooney-Quin have captured County "A" titles at 15, 16 and Minor, on their way contesting some of the most memorable games played in Underage competition when the opposition was provided by Clonlara.
For their part, since 2000, "Clon" haven't done too badly either!
They got the better of Clooney in an Under 21 "B" Final, before really setting sail, capturing County Minor "A" and Under 21 "A" Titles over the past four years.
Similar to Clooney-Quin capturing the County and Munster Intermediate Club Championship Titles, Clonlara followed suit 12 months later.
And then, Clonlara really found their feet, as they toppled Newmarket in the County Senior Final, taking the Canon Hamilton Trophy down to deep East Clare for the first time since the '20's.
That was 14 months ago. last year, they came within seconds of following up that win with the retention of the Title, but Cratloe struck for a last gasp goal, to deny Clon.
Thus, when Clooney-Quin and Clonlara meet in Shannon at the quarter-final stage, just as they did 12 months ago, anything could happen. On that day, there was little between the sides but a late Clonlara kick got them home safely.
This year, both sides have shown mixed form up to this in the Championship, but this is knock-out now.
A massive effort will be needed by the Clooney-Quin lads if they are to reach the County semi-final. We may be down a number of players due to injury, but the Panel has shown that there is strength in depth available to the mentors.
Lets hope that on Saturday our Lads can hit the heights that they are capable of and emerge victorious from a match that, as happened in the past, can throw up the unexpected when you least expect it!
Up Clooney-Quin!
