As a result of the Seniors terrific 1-10 to 0-9 win over neighbours, Crusheen on Friday last, August 28th, the team have qualified for the knock-out stages of the County Senior Championship with a game to spare. The foundation for the win was forged in a first half when the Clooney/Quin lads took the game to Crusheen, who were unable to take advantage of the strong wind that blew into the faces of the Clooney/Quin defence. Having led for the entire first half, it took an injury time Pat Vaughan free to tie up the sides at the break.
With wind advantage to come, the vital win was on the cards. An Alan Touhy point however put the Crusheen lads ahead for the first and only time in the game, but a crucial Fergal Lynch goal set the Clooney/Quin lads on their way to a famous victory that secured their passage to the quarter finals with the Corofin game to come in three weeks time.
