U-12

Both of Clooney/Quin’s teams were beaten by Newmarket-on-Fergus on Sunday in the County finals. Having played the better hurling in the 1st half, Team 1 were disappointed to go to the short break on level terms. Unfortunately, with CQ losing 3 players to injury and illness in the 2nd half it was the home side who were the superior force in this period and powered their way to a 3-7 to 1-3 victory. Team 2 also put in a brave performance before giving way to their hosts. County medals were presented to all players after the games and the Cora Caitlin Club laid on a fantastic reception for all players and supporters in the clubhouse where all mingled, chatted and dined. Just as it should be!

Clooney/Quin U12 hurlers will play their long awaited finals on this Sunday. The boys will make the short trip to Newmarket-on Fergus with two teams to take on The Blues. Team 1 and Team 2 will play their Newmarket counterparts simultaneously at 12:30pm.

Our U12s had a great day out at the Mullinahone Festival of Hurling last Saturday. After coming through the group stages with matches against O’Donovan Rossa of Antrim, Camross of Laois and Kilcormac of Offaly, the boys saw off Ballybricken/Bohermore of Limerick in the semi-final. The final against Capoquin of Waterford was a tight affair throughout with only a single point between the sides at any stage. Our boys had that advantage at half-time, but unfortunately, it was the boys from The Deise who had their ‘nose’ in front at the final whistle. Nonetheless, the lads really enjoyed their day and were presented with their medals by the former Tipp. Allstar and Mullinahone clubman, John Leahy.

Unfortunately, due to the atrocious weather conditions, Cusack Park is not available to host the Co. U12 Hurling Finals on Sunday. Consequently, the entire programme has been cancelled and efforts will be made to reschedule at a later date.

A busy and productive season of hurling activity for our U12s reaches a climax this weekend when the boys make the trip to Mullinahone on Saturday for a 14-county hurling tournament. Having already played against teams from Cork, Offaly, Limerick, Tipperary, Kerry and Galway this year, the boys will relish the chance to pit their hurling skills against more teams from around the country.

Then, on Sunday, they will make the short journey to Cusack Park where they will play in the Clare U12 finals. Team 1 will face Newmarket at 4pm while Team 2 will take on The Banner at 7pm. Please come along and support the teams.

 On Monday…..they will sleep!
