Our U-13 Hurlers had a cracking match with Clarecastle at home last Saturday in Round 2 of the Mother Hubbards Tournament. The first half was ‘Even Steven’ with the ball being moved quickly up and down the field. The crucial score of the first period came late in the half, and it was a goal for the Magpies that helped the visitors to a 1.4 to 0.2 half time lead. The high standard of hurling was maintained in the second half and as C/Q began to find their range, the scores came for the home team. It was Clooney/Quin that looked the likely winners at the three-quarter stage when they hit the front for the first time in the game. However, a strong finish from Clarecastle yielded a late goal and a point to take the spoils.Despite the defeat, this was a very good showing from our boys. Next up is a meeting with St. Josephs on Saturday when a win will almost certainly guarantee a place in the ‘A’ semi-final. The game will get underway in Clarecastle with a 12.30pm starting time. Anybody attending this game should be aware that there are also two senior games on in Clarecastle on Saturday, the first getting underway at 2pm. The County Senior Camogie final will take place at nearby Clareabbey at 2.30pm. All of this means that traffic will be heavy and if you want a quick getaway after the C/Q match it may be advisable to park on the roadside.
