when they went under to Eire Og in the semi-final last Friday. Though they battled bravely, it was the superior scoring ability of the town side which decided this tie.
Eire Og laid siege on the Clooney/Quin defence for the 1st quarter of this game, but to the credit of our men at the back, only 4 points were conceded during this period.
In the 15th minute Aaron Duggan fired over a point to put Clooney/Quin on the scoreboard. This was followed by 3 more points from 'The Townies' before half time.
Oh! but we could have been in a much better position at this stage as both Sean Shanahan and Aaron Duggan were denied goals on the Eire Og goal line.
Clooney/Quin resumed with some positional changes, and, with Fergal Culligan doing well at centre back, the 3rd quarter was more evenly contested. However, it was Eire Og who did better on the scoreboard adding 4 more points by the 10th minute.
C/Q then had their most productive period as they outscored Eire Og by 3 points to 2 in the next 15 min., with all 3 points coming from the stick of Keith Hogan.
Twice more C/Q had the ball cleared off the Eire Og line. When Conor Clune did put the ball in the net, play was called back for a free-in for a foul on Conor!.
3 more points from Eire Og finished the scoring, and finished the Championship Season for our boys.
Keith Hogan was solid between the posts and he stood behind a super defence where David Reynolds put in a real 'Brian Lohan' performance at full back (Now thats as good a compliment as any No. 3 can get!)
The midfield played their hearts out while up front, Lady Luck never smiled on our hard working forwards.
Final score: Eire Og 0-14 C/Q 0-4
After the game the C/Q Management were full of praise for the commitment and dedication shown by this squad. It's fair to say they were just responding to the tremendous effort put in by Pat, Conor and Tayto. Thanks Guys.
