Under 16 Hurling News from Mike Hogan............................
We heard a lot of talk this week about the 'Thrilla in Manilla' and the 'Rumble in the Jungle'. Well, on Monday evening in Hennessy Park we had just as much excitement and drama. The weather made sure it was 'Messy in Hennessy' but it resulted in a 'Win for Clooney/Quin'! While our U-16 hurlers never showed the arrogance of Ali, they certainly proved the greatest on this particular evening.
Now, after that epic play-off with Meelick, it is straight back into action this Friday evening.
In previewing this weekend's game we have to look back on the fantastic performance the lads put in against Meelick. It was not just the high quality of hurling that was to be admired but, also, their tremendous character and determination to succeed. Having trailed the visitors for all of 55 min. the boys in green and red never gave up and once they had equalized at the end of normal time there could only have been one outcome.
Standing between Clooney-Quin and a place in the U-16A final is Ballyea - the form team of the championship. Ballyea are a seasoned 'A' side and have a very impressive 100% record this year. While it will be a difficult assignment, our boys are hurling with a lot of confidence and assurance and hold no fear whatsoever. Our defence showed a very mean streak on Monday and a repeat performance will surely make things very difficult for Ballyea. At the other end of the field, we have quality forwards with proven scoring ability.
This team deserves the full support of the club this weekend. So, Clarecastle at 6.30pm on Friday evening is the place to be. Let's get fully behind Keith, Pa and the boys.
May they float like a butterfly and sting like a swarm of bees!
