Clooney/Quin U-16 Hurlers traveled to Clarecastle on Friday to take on The Magpies in Round 3 of the championship.
Supporters of this team would be forgiven for thinking that they were watching a Winter championship as, once again, coats and umbrellas were required on the sideline!
Both sides were a little 'sluggish' in the first half with neither team showing the guile necessary to break down the opposing defence.
Consequently, the score keepers were not over-worked. As the players headed for the half-time break the score read 1.4 to 0.4. Importantly, though, it was Clooney/Quin who had the advantage with the goal coming courtesy of Peter Duggan after 16 mins.
Keith and Pa gave the necessary pep talk, made some astute positional changes and the boys in green and red showed far more intent in the second half.
More chances were created, points were well taken and when Ryan O'Neill found the net after 21 minutes the victory was secure. These boys now head into the last group match in the championship undefeated and with a knock-out place in sight.
Final Score: Clooney/Quin 2.12 Clarecastle 1.10
