Clooney/Quin 1-14   Kilrush Shamrocks 1-6
A David O'Brien goal in the 5th minute of the second half set the Intermediate footballers on their way to victory over Kilrush Shamrocks in the Division 5 League semi-final played in Lissycasey on Saturday, June 14th. Having played against the hill and wind in the first half, the Clooney-Quin lads were in control for long periods of the half, but fell behind when they conceded a goal in the 2nd minute of injury time of the first half...........

Chris O'Brien opened the Clooney account in the 3rd minute from a free after Cathal Hannon was fouled.
Kilrush hit back with points from Tony Burke and John O’Connor. Johnny O’Brien levelled matters in the 6th minute from play and it took another 9 minutes for the next score, a Hannon point from play. Brendan Crowley levelled for the Shams from a free a minute leter.
A brace of frees from Davie O’Brien put Clooney two points ahead by the 20th minute, but Crowley reduced the lead to one from another free. Again Hannon answered from play, but points from Burke and Padraig O’Flynn levelled the game as we headed for injury time. The Clooney lads were then dealt a sucker-punch when substitute Daniel Ryan goaled to send Kilrush in at the break ahead on a 1-6 to 0-6 scoreline.
On the resumption, Clooney were well-up for the Battle. In the 5th minute Davie O'Briens goal and a series of five unanswered points from the 7th to 12 minutes by Hannon and David O’Brien, two each, and one from Chris O’Brien gave the Clooney outfit a commanding lead. Hannons score in the 12th minute was a delightful fisted effort following a long delivery from Declan O’Keeffe.
Kilrush were now struggling in many area’s of the field, but had a great goal opportunity in the 17th minute brillaintly saved by Ronan Gallagher in the Clooney goal when he went full-length to tip the ball away to safety from a Brendan Crowley shot.
O’Keeffe edged Clooney further in front in the 24th minute and Chris O’Brien finished off the scoring with the final two scores of the game, a pointed free following a foul on the hard-working John Earls in the 27th minute and from play in the final minute. The final score was 1-14 to 1-6.
The Final is scheduled for next Friday, June 27th when they take on St. Breckans in Roslevan.
