Recently,I heard a request to an old school junior team selector to say something positive on the line today, or nothing at all. (The new manager was insisting that everything said around or to the team had to be more positive)
By five minutes into the game, the pain became too much for our man - a bit like a Leopard losing spots- Not easy to change these kind of animals either. The opposition number 2 had opened brightly with 3 clearances from 3 contests. No junior selector worth his salt could stand by and watch this without comment. The customary volley of abuse to number 15 commenced with the usual venom. In particular, he had to distance himself publicly from this individual’s selection so it was rounded off with “None of his crowd could ever hurl. He has to come off”. Naturally, his new manager pleaded once again with his selector to say something positive at which the selector responded “None of ‘em could hurl before him, and I’m positive that this fella can’t either….Take him off !!”
