Carnew EmmettsHistory
Carnew Emmets GAA club was founded in 1886. It is a dual club located in the village of Carnew in the southern tip of Wicklow. During its existence it has won 4 Senior Football championships and 19 Senior Hurling titles. The last football title was back in 1973 when the club made local history by winning both the football and hurling titles. The 19 hurling titles have been achieved in the last 45 years since the initial title in 1965. Carnew Emmets are the reigning Senior Champions in Wicklow. The club currently fields teams in Junior, Intermediate and Senior Hurling championships and in Junior and Senior Football.
The club also has a proud tradition in Juvenile competitions. Carnew currently has teams from U8 all the way up to U18 in both Hurling and Football. Carnew Emmets represented Wicklow in the initial Feile na nGeal competition which was held in Tipperary in 1971, and have represented the county on over 20 occasions since. In 1979 Carnew reached the Div3 final, losing to Kilkenny side Piltown in Kilkenny. In 1985 Carnew went one step further, winning the Div3 title in Wexford. The following year in Ennis, Carnew beat the local Eire Og club to retain the Div3 title.
