There had only been two players that had the Honour of lifting the Trophy following a Clare Minor Munster Hurling Final win prior to last Sunday. Thus, when this opportunity falls to a player with a strong Clooney-Quin link, its a proud day for one and all.
Following the Clare Minors five point Final victory over Waterford in Thurles last Sunday, Paul Flanagan from Ballyea became the third member of that Elite Club to do so.
This Proud achievement swelled the Hearts of the Enright Family in Abbeyview, Quin, as Paul is son of Ann Enright. The Enright Family have had a long association with the Club, with Grandfather Frank having trained many hurling teams in the past. Uncle Frank, was a former Star with the Club, having Captained the Intermediate hurlers to their last Intermediate League Title in 1999. He is also fondly remembered for that Famous winning goal from a free in the Junior B Final of 1989. Uncle Ger is a current Officer of the Minor Club, and also mentors teams at Underage.
The Flanagans, Enrights and the Clare Minors and supporters will have their next outing in the All-Ireland Minor semi-finals in Croke Park on Sunday August 15th.
Until then, congratulations to all associated with this Famous Victory as we look forward to further success for the team!
