It was a very disappointing Weekend for all Clooney-Quin GAA Folk at the end of a hectic program of fixtures.
On Friday, the weekend got off to a tremendous start, when the Minor "A" side travelled to Eire Og and secured a thrilling three point win over the hosts, and as a result of the win, qualified for the Championship Quarter finals which are to be played this coming Friday evening. Newmarket will provide the opposition.
That Minor win on Friday evening was as good as it got, as the remaining four fixtures ended in bitter defeat.
First up on saturday were the Senior Camogie side as they faced neighbours, Newmarket. there was little between the sides for most of the game, with the Blues a point ahead 1-6 to 1-5 with ten minutes remaining, but they kicked-on from there and ran out 2-10 to 1-5 scoreline.
next up, the Senior hurlers took on Clonlara in the County Quarter-finals, but defeat was their lot also, Clon running out 2-10 to 0-12 victors.
later on Saturday, the Junior B's replayed their Quarter-final versus Sixmilebridge. Having probably had the better of the exchanges in the drawn game, the Clooney-Quin lads didn't repeat this performance, with The Bridge winning on a 2-8  to 0-4 scoreline.
All hope of salvaging something from the Weekend rested with the Intermediate hurlers who took on Sixmilebridge in Shannon on Sunday evening. The burden of the hopes of the Club didn't phase them as they had the better of the first half over the fancied Bridge side, with a nice three point lead of 0-7 to 0-4 at half time.
Sixmilebridge upped their efforts in the 2nd half and were level after 5 mins of action. From here to the 55th minute, both sides swapped the lead on a number of occasions, but the break-through goal came to the Bridge, who hammered home their advantage in the remaining minutes and scored a flattering 2-15 to 0-12 win. This was a disappointing end to the game as the scoreboard didn't accurately reflect the efforts of the Clooney-Quin lads.
Thus, the season has ended for a number of sides, with a huge effort being put in by the Ladies and Men of the Parish. With young players emerging on all teams, over the Winter, those involved can look forward to the 2011 season with a significant amount of optimism that success is not too far away.
Well done to all players and Mentors for their huge commitment in what has been a hectic seasons action.
In the meantime, its down to everyone to support the Minors as they head into a crucial game on Friday!
