12 May 2011
As has been reported, the Official Opening of our new Pitch will take place on Sunday week, May 22nd at 7PM. To prepare for the event, and for the day to run off smoothly, the Club will need a massive number of helpers.
The work required can be broken into two categories;
1. Preparation for the event-This work will be done BEFORE Sunday 22nd. We need to carry out an amount of work at the Pitch and surrounding area. A lot of work has been done already and this will continue next week also. We will require this help on Saturday morning, May 21st. A time for this will be circulated next week.
2. On The Day - Here is where we are asking ALL Members to make themselves available to help. There are several areas where we need assistance. The main areas are a) Road Traffic Management b) Car Park Control c) Roadside Stewarding d) Pitch Stewarding e) Catering f) Supply of Sandwiches/Cakes/Assorted Confectionary.
As with events such as these, unforseen situations may occur, so we will need stand-by volunteers in case an unforseen incident occurs.
Pat O'Brien is compiling a List of those who will be available to help. Please contact Pat and get your name on the list.
DO NOT LEAVE THIS WORK TO SOMEONE ELSE!
Invited Guests will be arriving at 5.30PM approx on the Sunday evening, so all Volunteers are asked to be at the GAA Complex NOTLATER THAN 5PM.
In order to reduce the number of cars in the area, we are asking all Members to either cycle, walk or be dropped at the Pitch. Please, do not bring your car.
It is very important that we make all Spectators welcome. Remember, they are paying for their attendance. Thus, please be as co-operative and helpful as possible, eventhough you may be faced with someone who may be less than respectful to you.
Also, once the game has ended, we MUST return to the Car Park(s) and help people on their way home as quickly as possible.
A quick tidy-up at the Pitch will also be required before we leave. This will involve a minimum amount of clearing and making all valuable equipment safe and secure overnight. A thorough clean-up will be required on Monday. If there are people who might be off work that day and are available to help, please contact Pat O'Brien.
Maureen and Mary Duggan are co-ordinating the Catering for the Invited Guests. A large number of people have also made themselves available. For those who haven't already done so and wish to assist, please contact either Lady above or any of the Committee.
All Stewards must be Over 16 years. We ask both Ladies and Gents to help on the day.
As we are all acutely aware, the economic climate is poor and this will certainly affect the attendance. So, what can we do to increase the crowd? Well, simply encourage your family and friends to attend. The most effective method of advertising, in spite of all the IT and Media advances, is via one to one contact. Thus, we all must be Salesmen and Saleswomen for the next ten days. Remember, as with most Clubs, we need all the revenue we can receive, so make a special effort this week. And yes, by all means use Facebook, Twitter, Text and E-mail!
Galway, by their recent activities with additions and exclusions from their Panel only this week, are looking at this game as a significant opportunity to prepare for the Leinster Championship which will take place two weeks after our Opening, so we expect Galway will have a very strong side on show.
Clare too, will be hoping to bounce back from their League Final defeat. This will be their first match since then so the Clare Management will be using this as another important game for their young side, so lets hope the game lives up to expectations.
Our Programme(Well, its getting to Book Size at the moment!) will be on sale by mid-week. Please purchase your copy as soon as possible so we can have a clearer picture as to how many copies we will need to print for the game on Sunday. The Book is almost Ad-free, so you will be getting a Publication full of interesting articles, facts, photographs and stories which, we hope, will be worthy of all those Members who have made this Club what it is today.
We will have a General Meeting this Monday evening, May 16th at 9PM in the Clubhouse which will allow us to plan in greater detail for the Opening. Please try and attend.
