Where are you now? Quin

What Years did you play for Clooney?

Started as a 16-year-old. Played throughout a Golden Era for Clooney Camogie in the 30’s. My brother Paddy (Mac) made my hurleys.

Highlights?

Won the Famous O’Duffy Cup with Clooney in 1942. This is one of the oldest and most famous Trophy in Clare GAA and was the Trophy for the County Camogie Champions of that Era. I won a number of medals for both Clooney and Clare.

Those you went into Battle with?

Annie Conheady, Nonie McInerney, Dokie and Cella McNamara Chris Markham,Fanny Corbett and Josie Mulqueen. Tisa McNamara, who had a great puck-out. She could hit the ball almost the length of the pitch.

Who were your trainers?

Mick Hennessy trained us in Patrick "Square" Carmodys Field. Patrick Carmody was our First Aid man. We trained in Carmodys and played matches in the field across from Canon Vaughans House(Now the Club Pitch!)

Who was your toughest opponent? Why??

Oh, that would be Rose Quinlivan from Tulla. She was a hard-hitter!

Heroes?

Chris Markam for sure. She was as good as any man.

What were your most memorable moments?

I had great times playing with Clooney. I played midfield with Babs Corry and myself on the wings and Fanny Corbett in the centre of midfield.

We played one day and Fanny played in the goal wearing a fur coat.

Another day we played Creevagh in a challenge game in Newmarket. It was a tough match but Clooney won it. The sideline was very active that day.

I had my appendix removed one time and had to play a game a week later. They put me in the goals because I couldn’t run. The game was played in Limerick.
