Last Saturday the u6 boys had their usual training session from 10am-11am. In the adjoining pitch the Clare u16 Development Squad was playing a match amongst themselves.
Later in the day the following text message was sent to Peter Casey, Games Development Coach with Clare GAA, by an adult attending the u16 session.
“Was in Quin this morning at trials. On 2nd pitch, there was a session for what looked like u6s – u8s. About 40 kids. One of the best sessions I have witnessed. Really well organised into stations with 2 mentors at each station. Loads of fun, 100% engagement, and massive massive praise and encouragement from the mentors. Teaching points at each station were being reinforced, unknown to the happy kids. The kids left for home feeling 7feet tall. ‘Twas great to watch and listen to. Future is really bright”.
“Ok, It was the u6 session. There were 33 kids. The important point is that we as a Club, as mentors, as adults are doing so much right that at times we do not see what is evident to others.”
The implementation of the player pathway by coaches in a positive manner will hopefully bear fruit.
From an u6 point of view great praise and thanks is due to Aidan Canny, Enda Clune, Darragh Hassett, Fergal Cahill, Kevin O’Dea, Adrian Sweeney and Brian Fitzpatrick for the help last Saturday and to all others who help out.
Training for u6s continues throughout the Summer every Saturday morning from 10-11am.
