Clooney-Quin 1-11 v 1-01 Clarecastle

Clooney-Quin were hosts to the Magpies on Sunday evening last when they proved just too strong on the evening.  The opening stages were even with Ciara Halpin first on the board but traded points with Grace Russell. Then Emily Costello pounced with a ground strike in front of the Clarecastle goal which deceived Sarah McNamara for the only time in the game.  McNamara was solid throughout and only for this the visitors would have been on the end of a much bigger score line.  Clooney-Quin were made to work hard for the rest of the half but with some good team work and link up play they held out the Clarecastle attack of which Grace Russell was creating the most difficulty.  As Clooney-Quin got to grips with the game they had a variety of scorers with Ciara Halpin(2), Moya Dunne, Roisin Corbett, Emer Moynihan and Emily Costello all adding points on the board.  While Sinead McGee, Lauren Slattery and Niamh McGee were very strong in defense. This had Clooney-Quin 1-07 to 0-1 ahead at the break.

Clarecastle came out in the second half determined to claw their way back into the game. And in the opening five minutes worked hard and Kirsty O’Hara hit a bouncing shot which deceived Emma Considine in the Clooney goal, Considine like McNamara at the other end was solid with some fine catches and well placed puck outs.  Clooney-Quin got to grips with the re-newed Clarecastle and eventually Ciara Halpin scored a point and five minutes laterafter good work from Roisin Keogh and Moya Dunne Halpin was at the end of a move to point again.  Emily Costello was on hand again after some fine work from Emer Moynihan and Rebeca Keane, to point and keep Clooney on the score board.  The scoring was finished off by Ciara Halpin.

Clooney-Quin in the end were dominant all over the field but credit to Clarecastle where they never gave up. It finished then Clooney-Quin 1-11 to 1-01 Clarecastle.
