Clooney Quin U18 camogie team qualified for semi final of the B Championship on Thursday night last after a strong win over Eire Og. Clooney Quin were winners on a 6-14 to 2-03 score line with the strong foundation laid in the first half. Clooney Quin led 4-05 to 1-01 at the break with Eire Og’s scores coming at the very start and very end of the half. The work rate of the team was what was impressive and it was this and clever link up play that produced the scores with 6 different scorers in the half, Moya Dunne 1-00, Sarah Costello 0-01, Aoibheann Duggan 1-01, Emma Deegan 1-01, Sinead Considine 0-02 and Roisin Keogh 1-00.
As the second half resumed Clooney Quin had the first 5 scores, Sinead Considine 2pts, Emma Deegan 1-1 and Sarah Costello 0-1, to bring their tally to 5-9 before Eire Og added two points. Clooney Quin responded well though and Sinead Considine(1), Moya Dunne(1-2), Aoibheann Duggan(2) all added to the score line. While the scores were spread out the forwards worked hard and the team was strong from goals out with Ciara Halpin in a change of position and Siobhan Cunningham, Ciara Grogan, Alice O’Donnell, Sinead McGee, Orlaith Nash and Michelle Meere all performing well.
The win has Clooney Quin in second place in the group after they also had wins over Broadford and Ruan, having lost out to St. Joseph’s.
The semi final will be on 25/26 August with possible opposition Newmarket-on-Fergus or Clarecastle/Ballyea.
