On Tuesday afternoon, last, May 26th, we had the presentation of a cheque, the proceeds of our climb of Moylussa in Killaloe on December 28th, 2014, to Staff from the Oncology Department of University Hospital, Galway.
In attendance at Clooney/Quin GAA Grounds were Chrissie Conroy, wife of the late Packie, along with Lorraine, Regina and Seamus Conroy. We also had Jackson, Lorraine’s son, Grandson of Chrissie and Packie.
UHG Staff members, Marie Cox,Group Cancer Services Manager and Sheila McCrorie, from the Oncology Department, travelled from Galway for the event.
Jackie Ryan, from The Village Inn, who sponsored the Climb, along with Club members, Haulie Hannon, Treasurer, Sean and Frances Earls, Mary Duggan and Ger O’Halloran, Senior Hurling team Manager were also in attendance.
The Grounds looked splendid on the day, a fitting reflection of the many hours effort Packie put into getting the facilities up to the the excellent condition they are in today.
Following the presentation of the cheque, for the huge amount of €20,605, finger food was served in a convivial atmosphere.
The Comfort Fund of the Oncology Department has recently taken delivery of an order of new equipment that was purchased from the Funds.
This equipment will make a huge improvement on patient care, which was the goal set out by Packie when the idea of the climb was first discussed back in September, 2014.
A full breakdown of the purchases will be available shortly.
An Appreciation of Packie has been published in this weeks edition of The Clare Champion.
