Clooney Quin U15 hurlers qualified for the Munster Super 10s as a result of winning a regional competition held in Clarecastle a number of weeks ago.
The Munster finals were held in Mallow last Saturday 10th June.
The format was four groups consisting of three teams in each group with the top team making the semi final.
St Finbarrs from Cork and Roanmore from Waterford were our group opponents.
We beat St Finbarrs by 10 pts in our first match and then played out a thrilling draw with Roanmore in our second match. Two five minute extra time periods could not separate the teams, however Clooney Quin got through on score difference.
We faced Ballina from Tipperary in the semi final. Despite having a considerable wind advantage in the first half we went in level at the interval. We hurled well in the second half and won by 5 points.
St Colmans, an amalgamation of Cloyne and Russell Rovers, from East Cork beat Ballygunner from Waterford in the other semi final and proved to be tough opponents in the final.
We got off to a good start and led by four points at half time. We lost our midfield dynamo Colm Cassidy to injury at half time and shortly after the interval Andrew Considine our stalwart full back had to leave the action due to a nasty arm injury.
The lads showed tremendous spirit to withstand a second half onslaught and held out to win by a four point margin.
It was a tremendous days hurling and for their efforts the boys received a gear bag, a training top and the club gets a set of goal posts.
