The Clooney Quin Under 12 Ladies football (Green) team finished off their 2018 Under 12 Division 4 Championship round robin campaign against neighbours St Joseph’s Doora Barefield on Thursday evening last (06/09/18) at Gurteen.
With nearly a full panel to choose from and to give as many girls an opportunity to get game time both teams played 15 a side.
Doora Barefield took their chances in the first half with the Maroons taking five out of their six scoring chances (three of these were goals), Clooney were dominant nonetheless in the possession stakes however lacking the killer instinct and the critical scoring touch, with eight chances in the first half and only one score to show in return.
In the second half it was a very even affair with Clooney shading it in the scoring stakes. Doora Barefield’s goals, some quite fortuitous, were to be the difference and Parish girls eventually held out 4.03 to 1.03 winners in the end.
The Clooney girls now have one game to complete in the championship with the Plate final against Kildysert to be played in a week’s time.
This Clooney Quin Green team are all currently under 11 playing in an Under 12 competition and there is no doubt that the experience of playing older teams in both this year’s Championship and in the earlier league will pay dividends in 2019.
