The Clooney Quin Under 12 Ladies football team finished off the 2019 Division 2 League campaign with a hard fought win over Kilmurry Ibrickane in Quilty on Sunday evening (26.05.19).

Despite playing with a very strong wind in the first half the home team found it hard to break down a resilient Clooney defence. The Clooney girls, missing a large segment of the panel for the match, were able to able to counter the home team’s attacks with some fantastic interceptions and were able to turn defence into attack with brilliant interplay by the half-backs and midfield with the forwards taking some fine score scores including a goal against the difficult wind. At half time both teams were level on scores, 1.3 apiece, with the Clooney girls now having the backing of the wind in the second half.

The Clooney girls indeed used the wind to their advantage kicking long ball into the forwards taking the pressure of the Clooney defence. Excellent handling skills and passing was demonstrated by the Quilty girls however it was the Clooney backs ability to turn over the ball in defence and quickly getting possession to the forwards the key to their victory.

The Clooney girls prevailed 1.7 to 1.4.

Due to a clash of team colours the Clooney team played in an alternative strip, which came all the way from Kildare but the green and red will be back in a few weeks after the girls take a well earned break from football.  Most of the girls can now concentrate on preparing for the Under 12 camogie championship beginning in June in which we wish them all the best.

The Under 12 Football championship is due to commence at the end of June with the Finals planned for later in the summer.
