OFFICER ROLE DESCRIPTION 2015/16
ROLE DESCRIPTION – SUMMARY
CLUB HEALTH & WELLBEING OFFICER ROLE DESCRIPTION
The role of the GAA Club Health and Wellbeing Officer (which has replaced the ASAP Officer) is to assist their club in supporting the health and wellbeing of all club members and, where possible, the local community.
The role is primarily about communication and will involve promoting the excellent work a club already does in this space (e.g. participation in Go Games, providing opportunities for physical activity, links with local community groups/charities etc) while also developing new opportunities and promoting these.
The officer will be supported by the club executive in his/her work and may establish a project team to assist him/her as and when required. Regular reporting of activities to the club executive should be agreed.
The officer will also be supported in this work by their County’s Health and Wellbeing Committee who will provide any training, support, and resources necessary to carry out their role.
The officer will familiarise themselves with the policies, resources, and programmes developed by the GAA’s Community & Health section which can be accessed at www.gaa.ie/community
The officer will support their club in putting a Critical Incident Response Plan in place – a template is available from your County Health & Wellbeing Committee and/or www.gaa.ie/community
The officer WILL NOT BE required to provide direct services or support to members but will help signpost to appropriate services provided by the HSE/PHA or local community and voluntary groups. (It is recommended that the officer compile a list of such groups working in their club’s geographical area – the Critical Incident Response Plan template will assist with this).
It is suggested that the Officer take up the position for a minimum period of two years.
No particular qualifications are required for the role other than an interest in promoting good health among the local GAA community and the time and capacity to fulfil the role.
