The Inn at Dromoland was the place of gathering for the Clooney Quin Gaa Club social.
This was a gathering of both current players and some of the great club players of the past.
They came from all corners of the parish of Quin,Clooney and Maghera and some from neighboring parishes to join in in the celebrations. On the night, the hurling Senior B County Champions, Junior A and Minor Ladies Football champions for 2016 received their medals from guest of honour Paul Flannigan, Clare and Ballyea senior hurler and Clondegad footballer. This was followed by presentations to the Clooney Intermediate team who won the Intermediate hurling final in 1986 captained by Pat’Loughlin and also to the team that won the hurling Junior championship in 1966 captained by Sonny Scanlan.
The celebrations began with piper Fintan Leamy of the Tulla Pipe Band piping in the captains of the 5 teams being honoured on the night. This was followed by grace before the meal by Rev. Fr Littleton, a member of the Clooney team who won the Junior title in 1966.
Paul started off the presentations by acknowledging his link to Quin , the home place of his mother Ann. He also spoke about his club Ballyea and their hurling achievements of the year and how the Clooney Quin were so close to beating them in Sixmilebridge in the latter half of the Senior championship and that there is very little between the senior hurling teams in the county.
The highlight of the night was the presentations to the 1966 team. Those present, absent or no longer with us were duly acknowledged for their contribution to the club and for the men they were in their time. They respectfully received a standing ovation as they left the stage.
The MC for the night was Syl O’Connnor who kept the crowd thoroughly entertained throughout the evening by adding his own flair and wit to the nights proceedings.
Thanks to the Inn at Dromoland for the lovely meal and to all those involved in the organising the event. It was a great success and was enjoyed by all.
