Last weekend was designated for the second round of the Clare ladies football championships. Clooney Quin played Doonbeg in Clooney on Sunday evening and managed to claim their first points in the Intermediate championship. They lost their first game against a very strong Kilmurry Ibrickane the previous week and will play the next round game on June 24th.

Half time score: Clooney/Quin 2-5; Doonbeg 3-1.

Full time score: Clooney/Quin 4-8; Doonbeg 3-5.

A great matches where the sides were level 3 times. Clooney led from most of the first half but with a few mins to half time Doonbeg leveled the match for the first time. Just before the half time whistle Emma Deegan pointed from a free for Clooney to go into the break ahead by the minimum.

After the break, Clooney experienced a lean period, with Doonbeg scoring four unanswered points, bringing Doonbeg a goal ahead. However this was to be Doonbeg’s last score of the match. Clooney went on to score 2-3, to win on a score line of Clooney/Quin 4-8; Doonbeg 3-5.

A great performance by a young Clooney Team with 7 different players on the score board. There were some fine performances from Ciara Grogan (captain), Moya Dunne & Emer Moynihan in defence, Sinead McGee & Aoibheann Duggan at mid field, and Sarah Costello, Emma Deegan & Jessica O’Neill in forwards.
