When the whistle sounded for the end of the County Senior hurling Championship match between Clooney/Quin and Newmarket on Saturday evening last, there was no hiding the elation of the Clooney/Quin players and supporters as they had just secured a slender one point win over their neighbours on a 1-11 to 0-13 scoreline. This win see’s the team qualify directly for the Quarter Final stages of the Championship. After a slow start, which saw them five points to one down, a spirited fightback from the lads from the mid-point of the first half kept them in the game right up to the final moments of the match, when a 60 meter Peter Duggan free found the Newmarket net which put the Clooney/Quin lads into that single point lead which they held ’till the end. With bragging rights secured, they have to wait a couple of weeks for the quarter final draw to see who will provide the opposition. This draw will be an “Open Draw” which means we could draw any of the seven qualifiers. Well done to the Lad’s on Saturdays win!
