Clooney Quin were invited to the John Joe Nevin Annual Tournament in Ballina Co Tipperary last Sunday September 13th. We took two even teams to the tournament and each team played 3 round games. The other teams in the competition were Murroe Boher Co Limerick, Newport Co Tipperary and Ballina. After the round stages of the competition there was an unexpected outcome in that Clooney Quin , Newport and Ballina all had the same points on the table because each team won 2 games and lost one.
While the committee were waiting to decide on the next step we were all treated to BBQ burgers and sausages and they were very welcome as the rain poured down on us for all the first 3 games.
A decision was reached and the rules of the competition state than in such an event the teams with the most points over the bar would proceed to the A final and the next to the B final.
In the end both Clooney Quin teams made it to the B final and both Ballina teams to the A final.
As a group of 2 teams Clooney Quin brought home the B Cup which was kindly presented and donated by Mrs Nevin in memory of her husband and son.
Despite the rain and meeting eachother in the B final the Clooney Quin hurlers played great hurling and represented themselves, their parents and their club to the best of their ability.
Well done boys.
