Clooney started off the scoring with one point from Shane Harrison. After 19 minites in to the second St Josephs were 5 points to 2 in front with just one point from O’ Cearbhallain from a free in that time. As half time closed in captain Colm Cassidy slotted one over, 2 converted frees from O’ Cearbhallain and one from play from O’ Cearbhallain put the visitors to Gurteen 1 point ahead at half time. The Clooney Quin keeper O’Halloran also kept Clooney quin in the game with a fine save on the 30th minute.
Form here on Clooney Quin never looked back and kept the scoreboard ticking over and always maintained the lead until the final whistle. Sean Mc Grath got the opening point of the second half followed by 4 consecutive converted frees by O’ Cearbhallain. On the 16th minute into the second half Clooney Quin got the only goal of the game. A well gathered ball by Egan passed into Harrison who made no mistake in placing it in the back of the St Josephs net. The was now left at 1 -12 to 0 10. A close in free taken by St Josephs which could have been destined end in the Clooney Quin net was cleared off the line and cleared down the field. Here after O’ Cearbhallain converted another free and one from play and it was the captain and leader of the Clooney Quin team, Cassidy that got their last score of the game.
This was a hugely entertaining and a fine game of hurling from both sides.
