U14B Championship started this week with Clooney-Quin having a home game in round 1 against Broadford.
This was a rematch of the U13B Plate final from last season but this time the result was different.

Clooney-Quin started well and were first on the attack. A free converted by Emma Considine give Clooney-Quin the boost they needed going forward.  The conditions underfoot were not the best but the Clooney-Quin girls coped well and Emma Considine a goal 5 minutes later.  The home girls were playing with the wind and worked well together creating good chances.
The home side got their second goal towards the end of the first half from Emma Considine who was at the end of a break from the backs. Clooney were 2-01 to nil up at half time.

Broadford had the aid of the wind in the second half and with a few positional moves were stronger in the second period and had a few threatening chances on goal . The Clooney Quin goal was in the safe hands of  Molly Slattery who pulled off a number of solid stops and cleared her lines well. There was an intense period of 10 minutes after the half time and the visitors pressure did break the home sides defences and 1-2 scored but not without huge effort.  The Clooney-Quin girls dug deep and eventually got to grips with this wave of attack. A long puck out was picked up by Rebeca Keane set up the Clooneys next attack . A combination of play from Lucy Cassidy and Jenny O’Connor sent the ball across the field where Emma Considine had made a good run and recorded her third goal from a strong ground stroke.  This was the break that Clooney-Quin needed and the game was more even from here.  Clooney-Quin finished the strongest and Emma Considine added a fourth goal to her tally before switching into goals and allowing Molly Slattery move to the forwards. Molly liked up well with Cliodhna Ryan who after a strong display for the hour got her reward with a goal of her own.
The home side were 5-1 to 1-2 winners in an exciting game.
The great performance was delivered by all the girls. It was areal team effort.
The girls will train again on Monday evening at 6;15 in Clooney and have a game next week against Sixmilebridge.
