Clooney-Quin 4-04 v 5-04 Kilkishen
Round 6 of the U14B saw a hugely entertaining game between host side CLooney-Quin and visitors Kilkishen during the week. Both sides traded scores throughout the game with the result not confirmed until the final whistle as both sides worked hard and were pushing for scores to the end. The visitors were faster to start and had a point from Caoimhe Kelly on the board and indeed in the first five minutes could have been much further ahead but for three fine saves from Molly Slattery. Clooney-Quin finally got to grips with the game and from a long puc out Emily Costello collected the ball and with a fast pass picked out Rebeca Keane who sent a fast ball across the field to Emma Considine who collected and took on the Kilkishen defense to record a goal to give Clooney the boost needed. From the puc out Rebeca Keane collected and converted a point. But this lead did not last long as the sides trades scores with a Shauna Keane brace of goals either side of a Caoimhe Kelly point for Kilkishen. Rebeca Keane was then on hand with 1-01 before Laoise Baker with a point and Caoimhe Kelly with a goal finished out the half strong for Kilkishen, leaving the half time score 3-03 to 2-02 in favor of the visitors.
It looked as if it was going to be a difficult second half when Shauna Keane goaled quickly after the restart but again the game was up and down the field and Clionadh Ryan goaled for Clooney. A lucky dip of the ball from a ’45 by Caoimhe Kelly deceived Molly Slattery in the goal to give Kilkishen a comfortable cushion. But the Clooney fight back never stopped with Rebeca Keane goal and Clionadh Ryan point followed by a converted free from Emma Considine, there was now too points between the sides and Clooney were pushing hard for the winning of the game. But Hollie Nuggent was up to the test in the Kilkishen goals. Indeed both goalies on the night were exceptional as in the last play of the game Molly Slattery deflected a huge shot on goal from Caoimhe Kelly to prevent the goal but concede a point. And Kilkishen were winners by a single goal.

Clarecastle 5-3 v 3-4 Clooney Quin
In an exciting game that moved at a fast pace Clarecastle eventually came out on top. Both sides worked hard throughout and the lead traded places and was never really secure until a few minutes from the end when Emma O’Donoghue scored the Magpie’s fifth goal. Scores were well spread throughout the game and Clarecastle were the first to strike inside the opening two minutes with Ciara O’Dell getting the ball past the Clooney-Quin defense. Emma Considine reduced the margin at the other end with a converted free but this was cancelled out when Emma O’Donoghue pointed. Then CLarecastle pressure was relentless and goals from Abbie Moloney and Annie McEldowney had the home side 3-1 to a point ahead and it was looking difficult for Clooney-Quin. The visitors never gave up though and with Ciara O’Connor and Caoimhe Leamy on the half back line and Holly Deegan and Niamh McGee at full back with Molly Slattery in goal pulling of a number of saves Clooney-Quin slowly fought their way back into the game. The work from Clooney-Quin paid of when Emma Considine goaled after great work from Rebeca Keane and Emily Costello and then Clionadh Ryan added a brace of goals, one from a puc out won by Abi O’Sullivan and Clionadh pouncing on the break. This brought the sides level at the half time break 3-1 a piece.
The game ebbed and flowed in the second half also with Emma Considine pointing a free for the visitors which was cancelled out by an Aoibhin Donnelly point. Then Emma O’Donoghue pointed the home side into the lead but a brace of points from Emma Considine put Clooney-Quin a point ahead. Ciara O’Dell then goaled for Clarecastle as they found space in the Clooney-Quin half. Clooney-Quin thought they had the reply as Ciara O’Connor sent a ball across the square and Emma Considine doubled to the net but the score was ruled out for a square ball. With Clooney-Quin attacking for the goal to give them back the lead Clarecastle were twice through on the overlap Molly Slattery pulled of a point blank save but Clooney-Quin could not get that elusive score and close to the end Emma O’Donoghue sealed the win for Clarecastle with a well taken goal.
