Clooney Quin 4-10 v 3-05 Newmarket on Fergus

Clooney Quin put in a good hours work in the U16 B Shield semi final to defeat Newmarket on this the second attempt in Clooney on Saturday afternoon. While Clooney led from start to finish and had to work hard for their win.  Emma Deegan worked well at full forward  through out and was very dangerous in possession and had the first score of the game when she goaled inside three minutes. Clooney threatened again but Niamh Gleeson in the Newmarket goal was in great form throughout and quashed a number of attacks.  Newmarket were level after a further three minutes when a goal from an over lap on in defence was converted by Mary Enright. Sinead Considine followed up with a brace one from a free and then from play.  Emma Deegan then pointed before getting her second goal of the game. This came after some great work from Roisin Corbett chasing down a clearance and setting up the attack again. Michelle McMahon followed up with two points for Newmarket to keep the pressure on Clooney.  Emma Deegan secured her hat trick after great link up play with Ciara Halpin, Orlaith Nash and Sinead Considine. This gave Clooney a bit of a cushion at the break as they led 3-3 to 1-2.
Aisling McGrath worked hard to get herself in position on a Clooney attack as the ball was sent towards the goal from a neat over head flick and she got the ball past the Newmarket goalie. Roisin Corbett who worked hard throughout had a brace of points as Clooney kept the pressure on in Newmarkets half of the field.  Newmarket were never going to give up and just as they did in the drawn game had their period of dominance and converted 1-2 before Emma Deegan pointed to help settle Clooney nerves again with a point from play which was followed up by a Ciara Grogran free.  Newmarket were not finished as they converted yet another goal to leave just five between the sides with five minutes remaining.  Clooney did not let the chance slip this time around as pressure from the forwards forced a 45 converted by Sinead Considine who added a further free and a point from play.
