On what has to be the worst evening weather wise in a long time, Clooney Quin were victorious over Coolmeen in this Div II semi final. Kilmaley GAA pitch was the venue for this match.

Clooney were playing against a slight breeze in the first half, which died down during the course of the match. It was the large hailstones and very low temperatures that effected the game more than the wind.

Coolmeen were the first on the score board with a point, which Clooney Quin followed with 1-1 from full forward Emma Deegan. Coolmeen scored another point at this stage but this was followed by 6 successive unanswered scores from Clooney Quin, to leave it 3-5 to 0-2. Some fine runs from Coolmeen’s Sarah McCann in midfield linking with Emma McMahon resulted in another 1-1 for Coolmeen before half time. Clooney Quin responded to this with 1-4, leaving the score at half time Clooney Quin 4-9; Coolmeen 1-3.

4 goals, 2 for each team were exchanged in the opening ten minutes of the second half. Despite a further heavy fall of hailstones at this stage both teams gave it their all. Emma McMahon (Coolmeen) scored the last score for Coolmeen with about five minutes to go. Clooney ended with a goal from Ciara Halpin and a point from Emma Deegan. Final score – Clooney Quin 7-11; Coolmeen 3-4.
