Clooney-Quin 4-08 v 1-02 Tulla/Bodyke
Clooney-Quin qualified for the final of the U18 B Shield after a determined performance in Clooney on Monday night against Tulla/Bodyke. The home side led from start to finish with a strong team performance and good work rate . Jessica Leamy was reliable from placed balls throughout the evening and had the opening score of the game with a pointed free. Aoibheann Duggan pointed then after a cutting run from mid-field. Jessica Leamy was on target again from a free before Sarah Costelloe got the first of three points from play in the half. Clooney-Quin were dominating in all positions and the link up play between the team resulted in some fine scores. Then to finish the half in style Aoibhean Duggan made a run through the center where she got on the end of a cross and kicked into the back of the net. This had Clooney-Quin 1-6 to nil ahead at the break.
Tulla/Bodyke did try to threaten early from the restart but Aoife Deane was alert in the goal and deflected a shot out for a ’45 which Ciara Doyle converted to give the amalgamation their first score of the game. Their momentum didn’t last long though as the home side were on the attack from the puck out and in two moves made the ball to Sarah Costelloe who with a run through the center buried the ball in the Tulla/Bodyke net. Indeed Costelloe was on hand only minutes later as an attack was set up from a Tulla/Bodyke puck out. Emma Deegan broke the ball and set up Costelloe and she made no mistake with the second goal to give Clooney-Quin a 3-6 to 0-1 lead. Tulla/Bodyke did continue to work hard but the continuous pressure of the Clooney-Quin back line gave them no time on the ball and forced a number of wides or drop shots which Aoife Deane, Michelle Meere, Siobhan Cunningham and Eimear McGrath were more than capable of dealing with. Jessica Leamy was on hand again from a ’45 forced by Maeve Clune and this was followed by a long range shot from Sinead Considine which deceived the Tulla/Bodyke keeper and dipped into the net. Aoibheann Duggan closed the Clooney-Quin scoring with another pointed effort. Tulla/Bodyke did register again with a Ciara Doyle free deflected to the net and Katie Minogue pointed from play. The game was well and truly over at that stage and Clooney-Quin had booked their place in the final, with another fine team display.
