Clooney/Quin-Banner had a deserved but hard-fought win over Corofin/Ruan on Saturday evening in Corofin in the U21C championship semi-final, running out winners on a scoreline of 3:04 to 4:15.
The visitors had the best of the first half, making full use of the opportunities presented to them, scoring 3:07 through goals from Keogh and Sarah Costello (2:00), and points from both Considines, Emily Costello, Duggan and Sanz. Some superb defending from goalie Deegan and backs Leamy, Grogan and Halpin, kept Corofin/Ruan from scoring until just before half-time, when they scored 1:01, the goal coming in the last seconds of the half.
The home side started the second half as they finished the first, scoring 2:03 within 15 minutes of the restart. Frees from Emma Considine and points from Duggan, who was outstanding throughout the game, kept the Clooney/Quin-Banner scoreboard ticking over. However, when a fantastic run by Sanz up the sideline ended in a goal off the hurley of Moynihan, the game was all but over. The goal was followed by yet another Emma Considine free, and the final score of the game was a point from Sarah Costello, resulting in a well-earned win for the Clooney-Banner side.
