Under 12 Ladies Football 2019 Update

The county under12 ladies football league is well and truly underway. There are four divisions with the Clooney-Quin girls playing in the second tier with teams from Burren Gaels, The Banner, Cooraclare, Corofin and Kilmurry-Ibrickane.

Like all teams in the pre-season league preparations were hampered by the inclement weather however some fortunate breaks in the clouds allowed the girls to finally get going in early-March with some very well attended training sessions.

These girls, some only in their second year playing football, have taken to it like ducks to water and with a number of winter training sessions behind them the maturity and experience is begining to show.

Along with new and improved training techniques challenge matches have been played to hone the skills learned during training. Challenge games against East Clare Gaels and Fergus Rovers ensured all panel members got the chance to impress.

With two games played in the league so far Clooney Quin lost their first game narrowly to a late second half comeback by Burren Gaels. However a magnificent panel performance against a dogged Banner team and the Clooney girls got their first win on Tuesday evening last, 6.1 to 2.2.

A trip to Cooraclare follows next week after many of these girls will have had the brilliant and enlightening (and hopefully not a once in a lifetime!) experience of playing in Croke Park on Easter Monday in the Caman to Croker series, with Clooney Quin’s u12 Camogie team. We hope that they and their trainers have a great day out and a memorable time playing there.

It is a long and testing year ahead with the u12 football championship to follow shortly after the league finishes at the end of May so let’s hope that success will follow this group of talented Clooney Quin girls.
