At 11.30 on the 19th May 2018 Clooney Quin GAA Club hosted one of the first rounds of the scheduled Under 8 Football Blitzes for Boys.

Three clubs were invited to attend, these were Eire Og Ennis, Corofin and Meelick.

The games would be 7 a-side with 10 minutes a half.

Despite the celebration of First Holy Communion in Clooney Church on the morning of the blitz, Clooney-Quin were still able to put three teams together on the day.

The weather held and a great spectacle of football ensued.

All visiting teams were strong and a great challenge was put up to the hosts.

The Clooney teams demonstrated all the skills that they had picked up in training and hopefully picked up a few more bits from their competitors on the day.

After each teams three games the players picked up their goodie bags and treated themselves to the more treats and other sweet things so kindly and generously provided by the Clooney Quin parents for the Club Shop.

Hot drinks and snacks were also available on the day for the thirsty parents.

Massive thanks to all who helped out in any way on the day, to Elma McGee, Rosie Stritch, Nina Timmons and Caroline Devane in the catering department, to the trainers, Pat Hanrahan, Declan Staunton, Brian Stritch, Joe Brennan, Martin Timmons, Sean Devane, Declan O’Keeffe, Colm O’Dea, Benny Meehan and especially to those who put themselves at the mercy of glaring eyes and sharp tongues, both young and old, and refereed on the day. Extra thanks to Nina for her texting and organisation.

The next scheduled Under 8 football blitz is planned to be in Kilimer on the 16th of June.
